"Strategies for deploying MOOCs in Higher Education"
Abstract:
In this talk I will review ways of using MOOCs drawing heavily on University of Edinburgh experience. I will provide a taxonomy of MOOC types and discuss how MOOC platforms vary. I will conclude by focussing on the various hybrid modes in which we can usefully deploy MOOCs.

"Opening up education with MOOCs: a perspective from the European Commission"
Abstract:
Digital technologies have profoundly transformed our world. But in some areas the benefits of the digital have not been fully exploited. This is the case for education and training.The European Commission is committed to making a change in this regard. MOOCs have a great potential in democratizing education and training and delivering high-quality learning opportunities to all. In recent years several research and innovation projects focusing on MOOCs have been funded to facilitate coordination between involved universities (EMMA project) and on-going work tackles question such as the assessment in MOOCs (TESLA project). The key-note discusses the importance of high-quality education, the opportunities for MOOCs in opening up education, the challenges and the work undertaken by the European Commission to move the field forward.
